The race at Misano

The race at Misano

11-13 July 2008
The race at Misano Adriatico
in the middle of July was a hot experience with temperatures almost reaching 40 degrees Celsius during the weekend. This gave a temperature inside the car of over 60°C!
– I have not driven as hot a race as this one since I raced in Japan in the middle of the 1990´s. It felt like driving a race in speeds around 300 km/h sitting in the sauna, Tony said afterwards.
The weather made the weekend hard for drivers as well as the big crowd who came to watch the Ferrari Challenge races – the European and the Italian championships – and the Ferrari Corse Clienti historical F1 cars that also spent this weekend at Misano.
Warm weather is something that Tony likes though, in race 1 he started in 12th position and after a controlled race finished 10th. Before the second race, Tony and the team changed the strategy and decided to go for a more aggressive approach, something that paid off directly as Tony made a great start and got up as high as 5th place during the first lap, until Czech driver Robert Pergl misjudged a breaking point and crashed into Tonys Ferrari, an incident that sent them both plus Monaco driver Philippe Prette off the track. With a bent car Tony then had to do it all over again, but with solid determination and some tough racing, Tony finally ended up in 7th position.
– It is sad that I couldn´t make more of the great start, but still I´m very satisfied with the race. During the final lap I passed two cars, something that you don´t experince too often in this tight championship, Tony said after race 2.
Thanks to the result which gave a good score of points, Tony now lies a total 11th in the series.
