First race of the season

Monza, March 29-30 2008

Tony and the car
The car and Tony

A great start of the season for G2 Racing in the Trofeo Pirelli as Björn Grossman held pole position and Tony 7th on the grid after qualifying for the first race. Furthermore the weather was warm and sunny and quite a big crowd had turned up at Monza for this years first race in the Ferrari Challenge. When the flag dropped Björn managed to keep his lead despite severe pressure from Philippe Baron throughout the 40 minute race and end up as the winner before Baron and Max Blancardi. Tony had some bad luck in the first chicane and was hit by another car, lost some ground and then had to struggle his way up to a final 10th position.

In the second race Tony started on 11th place after a qualifying where he got stuck in traffic during his fast laps. Despite this he worked hard and stayed out of trouble during the race and was at best fighting for 5th position when a small problem with the fuel system made the car misfire in the quick bends around Monza during the last laps. Tony could salvage 8th position and in all was quite content with the first race weekend which most of all showed that the cooperation with the new team works great and gave Tony a lot of confidence for the continuation of the season.

Björn Grossman who started 4th on the grid saw bad luck as the engine of his 430 didn´t restart after a spin in the Ascari chicane, and he had to walk back to the pits with no points recorded this time. Winner in this race was eventually Austrias Philippe Baron before frenchmen Barde and Misslin.
